We LOVE engagement sessions. They are such a fantastic opportunity for us to work with our couples ahead of the big day and really build excitement for the wedding! There are so many benefits to an engagement session, but by now you might be wondering what to do to be ready for it. We’re so glad you asked!
Here are five of our favorite ways you can make your engagement session awesome!
Take a DEEP breath, nerves are normal.
Unless you are a professional model or an actor, you probably aren’t used to having your picture taken. Nerves are a completely normal and expected part of the process. Not to worry! This is exactly what you hired us for. We have a whole variety of ways to help you feel comfortable and allow you the chance to be in the moment with the person you love. We’ll give you as much direction as you want, or we can sit back and give pointers here and there. We promise not to let you look silly, and if a particular pose isn’t working or feels super weird for you, we’ll redirect in a way that feels better and still looks amazing! After almost every session, our couples tell us that they had even more fun than they expected and that we helped them feel so comfortable. We will do the same for you!
Puppy Love: Bring your fuzzy loved one!
It’s no secret that we ADORE dogs. As a proud pittie mom, Ashley’s day is always made when she gets to meet and pet a dog. (And you’ll see the dog selfies on our story afterwards!) So, why not bring your furbaby to your session?
It’s a great way to incorporate the furriest member of your family into this exciting time. Make sure to have treats on hand to reward good behavior and get their attention as well a pet-friendly friend who can hold onto your pup while the two of you have some separate portraits taken. We also recommend a change of clothes, just in case someone gets a little too excited and maybe leaves a muddy paw print somewhere. We hope to see your little (or not so little) love at your session!
Do something you love with someone you love.
Your engagement session doesn’t have to be just pictures of you in pretty places looking amazing. Doing something you love to do together is a great way to kick the nerves and capture authentic laughter and fun. It may be ice skating together (we’re really good on skates!), riding your bikes around the city, maybe even grabbing a bite at your favorite local haunt. Whatever you enjoy doing together, we’d love to capture it for all time.
Dazzle with Your Details.
As you plan your outfits, take a moment to check the little details. Is your engagement ring clean? You’re going to be showing it off, make sure it’s sparkling! If you’re wearing nice shoes, take a moment to polish them. A freshly ironed shirt looks amazing. Just a couple minutes of attention can bring a level of polish and shine to your engagement look that will result in gorgeous photographs you can’t stop looking at!
Celebrate!
With all the bustle of wedding planning, it can be easy to lose sight of the reason you’re getting married. After your session, take an evening to forget about the wedding plans and just talk about what you love about each other. We know just how important these moments are. Your engagement session is a great opportunity to do this. You’re all dolled up, so it is a great time for a romantic dinner and deepening your connection. You’ll have a fresh reminder of just how amazing your love is, and some incredible pictures to boot!
