(Not sold on the suburbs? No worries! We have a list of equally amazing Philadelphia venues for you to check out AND this amazing post about our love of all things Cescaphe!)
1. Parque at Ridley Creek State Park
In the picturesque hills of Ridley Creek State Park, the freshly rebranded Parque (formerly known as Hunting Hill Mansion) sits in stately elegance. This magnificent stone mansion has so much to offer.
The grounds of these lovely estate include a beautiful reflecting pool, many tiered gardens that transport you to a time of grace and charm, and above all, the stunning landscape of Ridley Creek State Park. Between the vibrance of springtime blooms and the fire of autumn leaves, this is a gorgeous indoor/outdoor space for all seasons! (Bonus, we love the park for engagement & family sessions, too!)
The stone patio is the perfect place for your cocktail hour and guests are free to roam the gardens, until everyone is ushered inside for your reception. Even more exciting, if you are up for a little adventure during your portrait session, you can easily escape into the forest for portraits that are truly unique & embrace nature.
The great room surrounded by deep wood walls is lined with windows, letting in loads of natural light. As the evening comes on, it feels like an intimate dinner with your closest friends and family, with a dance floor of course. You’ll twirl the night away and leave with the most exquisite memories of your wedding day.
Tucked into a tiny community of gorgeous homes along the Main Line, Appleford Estate is a glorious suburban Philadelphia wedding venue. Just a short ride from the city limits, this historic home is full of light and life.
The interiors of the home are perfect for getting ready on location – with the beautiful second story, light-filled bridal suite and a wonderful groom’s suite to boot! Your guests will have a chance to explore the gorgeous mansion throughout the cocktail hour before heading outside to a tented celebration overlooking the impeccably manicured grounds.
Speaking of the grounds, the gardens on the estate are probably the real reason you’ve fallen in love with this venue. The tree lined pathway, hedge maze, and perfectly manicured landscaping is rich with angles and textures, creating a vibe of proper English gardens. There’s no limit to the beauty to be found and created here.
James A Michener Museum of Art
Bright, modern, beautiful. If those three words appeal to you, then the Michener Museum may be the perfect place for your wedding.
This Doylestown wedding venue is a perfect blend of contemporary aesthetic with timeless beauty. If you’re looking for a blank canvas to create an artful wedding celebration, you couldn’t choose a more suited space.
Wedding ceremonies can be configured in a number of ways to feature the different pieces in the beautiful sculpture gardens. (Although, we know, all eyes will be on you!) Your guests pass through a wonderful pathway into a courtyard with even more sculpture to admire through the cocktail hour. But the really impressive moment happens with the shades are raised revealing the beautiful reception space, an impressive architectural space that creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor space.
The three story high floor to ceiling glass walls of the modern ballroom lets in all the natural light in the world, while allowing your guests to continue to enjoy the outdoor sculpture gardens & water features from the comfort of their own seat. Each event is distinctively unique, but all with Catering by Design’s signature hospitality (& amazing food!)
As if that wasn’t enough to excite you, there’s no lack of stunning portrait locations around the Michener Museum. The grounds of the Michener are not only perfect for beautiful wedding portraits by day, but it is one of our favorite places to sneak out for an evening session after dark.
The Radnor Hotel
It’s not common for us to fall in love with a hotel venue, but we know that there is something so appealing about the ability to get ready, get married, party hard, and stay over all in one spot. Lucky for anyone looking for this type of venue, right on the Main Line is the charming Radnor Hotel.
It’s a perfectly central meeting point for those coming from both the city and ‘burbs, this hotel has a lovely courtyard and ballroom for you and your guests to enjoy a romantic and celebratory evening together.
Since it’s just minutes from St Thomas of Villanova (one of our favorite chapels!), the Radnor Hotel seems to resonate with some of our Villanova alumni. We’ve celebrated many a Wildcat wedding there!
Plus, its close proximity to Valley Forge gives you a great option for some incredible history and portraits, if you want to go off-site for more photos. That being said, the courtyard is absolutely beautiful all seasons of the year (we’ve seen them all) and it’s another one of our favorite suburban Philadelphia weddings for capturing fun night portraits! (Are you sensing a trend? We love stepping out for a second mini session of just the two of you!)
Beyond all of its other benefits, nothing beats the ease for you (& your guests) to simply hop on an elevator after they enjoy themselves at your wedding to head straight up to their room at the end. A perfect end to a perfect wedding!
Ballroom at Ellis Preserve
One of the suburban Philadelphia wedding venues to steal our heart in the past few years has been the Ballroom at Ellis Preserve.
Echoing the architecture of some of our favorite Philadelphia portrait locations, the grand facade of Ellis Preserve invites you inside to partake in what will be a memorable evening for all!
Inside is all white and the bright natural light bounces beautifully, giving all a warmth and inspiring joy. To the right, there is a floral wall installation that rotates seasonally and is a great place for ALL. THE. SELFIES.
Not only will your guests be impressed as they walk into the beautiful, spacious building for cocktails & reception, but the grandeur of the Corinthian columns rising above the marble stairs will help you make an impressive entrance into your wedding ceremony. As your guests sit outside for your wedding ceremony, they’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful green space and the epic architecture all in one glance!
When it’s time to bring it all inside, this modern space is perfectly set for a party tailored to you. There are so many configurations for this room, so you are sure to find a flow that fits your vision. Bonus? This is one dancefloor that we’ve never seen empty! Something about the room just brings out the most fun wedding guests we’ve ever seen!
After dark, the uplighting on the columns makes for a grand night portrait and can be customized to a color of your choice. Temple Owl? Add some red! Eagles fan through and through? Make it green! Hopeless romantic? There’s a really pretty peachy pink we love. You can snuggle with your honey and have a moment of peace in the midst of the celebration before rejoining everyone to kick up your heels.
Huntingdon Valley Country Club
Head just north of the best city ever and you’ll discover one of our favorite country clubs! Huntindon Valley Country Club delights us with its chic elegance.
The first thing that strikes you as you approach this gorgeous building is the perfect wrought iron gate. It’s a wonderful place for portraits and has an iconic view of the gorgeous stone exterior. Inside those gates lies the beautiful country club. HVCC feels more like an estate than a clubhouse, although the beautiful greens behind make for another awesome portrait backdrop!
Above all else, the courtyard makes our hearts sing. With stone walls crawling with deep green ivy, manicured gardens, and a pathway that just glows in the afternoon sun, we can’t get enough of Huntingdon Valley Country Club
Your guests will enjoy wandering through the rooms of the clubhouse, with their old world elegance and unique styling, during cocktail hour. But as they head into the ballroom for your reception, they will be truly impressed! With exposed wood beams, a gorgeous stone hearth, and a fun balcony for the band/dj, this is one of the more unique country clubs in the area! We know you’ll love making it your own and celebrating all night long!
The Old Mill in Rose Valley
Hiding down one of the winding back roads in Rose Valley, you’ll be transported to another world at The Old Mill. This lovely suburban Philadelphia wedding venue is just a short drive from Center City, but features a charming stone courtyard with open arches, tons of gorgeous scenery, and a beautiful ballroom that gives us serious mountain lodge vibes.
Although many of the venues that we’ve shared are notable for their epic status, we love the intimate feel of weddings here! It’s a perfect spot to celebrate your love in the natural beauty of the outdoors while still feeling cozy and connected to all of your closest friends & family.
This wedding venue has it all. The indoor ballroom is rustic and warm. The outdoor ceremony space is lined with bamboo and guests cross an idyllic stone footbridge to get there. In the autumn, the surrounding woods come alight and you are bathed in the radiant splendor of the season. In the spring and summer, everything is lush, bright and rich. Even winter weddings are comfy and cozy, the warmth of the Old Mill augmenting the feelings of family and friends who have gathered in celebration.
Whitemarsh Valley Country Club
There is another country club here in the suburbs that has a really unique space we love – Whitemarsh Valley Country Club! With a really unique octagonal ballroom that opens out into the cocktail hour space (& it’s gorgeous deep wood bar), we love the flow of the space.
The experience starts as your guests enter up a beautifully winding split staircase and continues out on to gorgeous decks that are perfect for bringing the outdoors and indoors together! This is absolutely not a typical country club ballroom! The luxurious patterned carpet leads you to the dark wood dance floor that you and your guests are sure to tear up all night long!
But the true magnificence of Whitemarsh Valley is the incredible golf course, a perfect location for your wedding portraits. Sweeping off into the distance, you’ll feel like you’re the only ones in the world. And as the sun goes down on the horizon, you will be bathed in perfect golden light for a romantic set of photos! We can grab a golf cart and go exploring or stay close to the clubhouse and just enjoy the views. There’s so much to take in and beautiful photographs to be made.
If you’ve followed along with us for any length of time, you know how much we love exploring Valley Forge National Park, whether it is for engagement photos, wedding portraits, or even just a beautiful day outside! But, did you know that just on the edge of Valley Forge National Park is a beautifully restored historic farmhouse, The Duportail House.
This is one of our favorite places to honor a little piece of history on your wedding day, this charming farmhouse is named for the French general who helped design Washington’s defenses to prepare for a British attack from Philadelphia. In this notable and utterly darling setting, you can begin to build your own history.
The true dazzle of this venue comes in how you can use the outdoors for your ceremony and reception. The interiors of the Duportail House can be your focal point in a large group, or you can keep the feel small and intimate with a garden party style reception. Marrying history and beauty, this is a sure bet for anyone looking to create a love story for the record books.
Did you know there is a castle in the northern Philadelphia suburbs? Ok, maybe not a real castle, but a venue that is sure to take your breath away like one.
Cairnwood Estate is one of the most recognizable suburban Philadelphia wedding venues and with good reason. As guests wind up the long drive, they see the mansion at Cairnwood looming ahead on a hill. The magnificent exterior is a perfect preview of what is on the inside. Luxurious room after luxurious room. Each with a warmth and opulence of their own.
The grand staircase is the perfect place for you and your new spouse to make the grand entrance you deserve. Smaller dining rooms and the intimacy afforded by the library bring a warmth and coziness to any reception. The patio overlooks acres of rolling hills, showcasing the beauty of the estate through out the seasons (but especially in autumn!) This stunning suburban Philadelphia wedding venue is sure to give you the fairy tale wedding vibe that you’ve always dreamed about.
