Wedding Fashion SNAFU’s and How to Fix Them

Wedding fashion is something that every bride and groom spends a lot of time thinking about. The perfect dress, the best shoes, a wonderful boutonniere, right down to the smallest details. There’s a lot that can happen on your wedding day and sometimes there can be fashion emergencies. We’ve seen plenty and here are the ones that happen most and how you can be prepared to still look amazing if they do.

Oh No! My Zipper Broke!

To clarify, we are mostly talking about wedding dresses on this point. If a groom’s zipper breaks, it’s usually not noticeable and we are definitely not going to try to fix that for you. But sometimes, a zipper breaks for a variety of reasons. We had a bride last year who caught her heel on the back of her dress and it caused her to stumble. When she pitched forward, the zipper pulled away from the bodice of the dress and tore. Thankfully, we carry an emergency kit that includes a sewing kit and Ashley was able to sew her right into her dress. No fuss, no muss. You couldn’t tell at all! So, if your zipper breaks or jams or refuses to go up, fear not! A few minutes of sewing and you’ll be good as new!

Uh Oh! A Hug Took Out the Boutonniere!

Boutonnieres are incredibly fragile and with the amount of hugs you receive on your wedding day, chances are that at some point, they will get bumped and busted. Not to worry! There are a variety of fixes for this. First of all, many florists will include a spare boutonniere for the groom, for just such an occasion. If there’s no spare, you can often fix the boutonniere easily with some straight pins and tape. Often we will see a rose head get knocked off. When this happens, grab a straight pin (or a bobby pin if you don’t have a straight pin) and stick it down through the top of the flower and into the stem of the boutonniere. If that’s not secure enough, secure with tape or a little thread from the valuable sewing kit. Boom! Fixed.

What’s On Your Shoulder? Oh, Just Aunt Mariel’s Foundation…

This happens all the time to the gents. One of your relatives gives you a great big hug and when she pulls away, there’s a big smudge of foundation or powder on your tuxedo. Oh boy. The biggest problem here is that most people don’t notice that this has happened until it’s much later in the day, so your pictures have this stain in it. Not on our watch! We keep careful track of our bridal party and their wardrobes, never fear. When we do notice this, we have an easy fix. Makeup remover wipes. They don’t stain and they easily wipe away the cheek print left by your mother’s second cousin’s great aunt.

Similar to this for both ladies and gentlemen is deodorant stains. Our first suggestion is to not use a white deodorant. Use a gel or a spray for your wedding day scent. It won’t stain your suit or dress. If you do use a white and find it where it shouldn’t be, a pair of nylons will wipe it right away. Ladies, you can also use tissues to protect the dress while you apply!
