So you’re engaged! Hooray! Let the bells of love ring out and shout your happiness from the rooftops! Now what? You’re probably like many others out there and wondering if you should have an engagement session. The short answer is yes! Engagement sessions are wonderful and I will let you in on a few excellent reasons why you should have one.
- You get a chance to work with your photographer before your big day.
This is absolutely not to be discounted. Many couples find themselves far more comfortable in front of the camera if they’ve already had a session with their photographer. You get the benefit of seeing how they work, how they cope with unexpected circumstances, how you feel around them and you can have open and honest discussions about what you liked or didn’t appreciate so that they can make adjustments for your big day to ensure you get the perfect photographs. It also gives you a chance to establish greater rapport that can help keep things light and fun even in the midst of wedding day jitters or stress.
2. You can capture your love across different seasons.
Are you getting married in the heat of summer? Or when the leaves are all aflame? An engagement session gives you the chance to have photographs that highlight a different season. You can have enjoy photographs of you and your love in a field of wildflowers, or snuggled up together in the snow or taking advantage of autumns glory. Whatever seasons you love, take advantage of an engagement session to have a day out together and enjoy it.
3. It’s an opportunity to show off your favorite places.
Do you live in the city or way out in the sticks? Do you have a place that is special to you and your honey? Having an engagement session can get you to those places that might be inaccessible or impractical on your wedding day to try to get to. Maybe enjoy a stroll through Rittenhouse Square or a deliciously scented walk through Longwood Gardens or head out for an evening on the beach. Wherever your heart desires to go, we’d be privileged to go along with you to your favorite places.
4. It’s an opportunity to get photographs with your fur babies that may be uncooperative on the big day.
A lot of people have little fur babies and want to have some photographs taken with them. Engagement shoots are a perfect way to do this, especially if you don’t plan to have them around on your wedding day (animal fur is not necessarily an accessory you want to your dress or suit). They can be used to announce your engagement in a unique way or brag about their parents getting hitched. And, let’s be real, they’re so dang cute!
5. It’s FUN!
This gets downplayed far too often. Engagement sessions are FUN! You get to have a beautiful and fun day with the love of your life and have it captured for the ages. We can follow you around on a fun date or see you all dressed up and getting your vogue on. Whatever your cup of tea, it can be a wonderfully fun thing that yields incredible photographs for you to reflect on for the rest of your life.
