5 Best Spots for a Philadelphia Surprise Proposal

My blog post last week talked a little bit about how to plan a surprise proposal. As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I’m kind of a collector of Philadelphia love stories, including great proposal spots!

If you want to capture the moment, I’ll shoot your proposal. Just pick a spot and I’ll hide away until you’re ready to get down on one knee.

As I explained last week, the best spot for a Philadelphia surprise proposal won’t be too crowded, but I’ll still be able to remain inconspicuous. Here are a few suggestions:

Broad Street

There are lots of spots in Philadelphia for weddings and engagement sessions. Broad Street is one of my favorites! It does require a bit of traffic dodging. Once you get onto the median, the gorgeous, historic architecture of city hall makes an amazing backdrop. Broad Street is also and ideal spot for me to photograph your proposal without being noticed. There’s so much going on, I’ll blend right in!

Love Park

Love Park (technically JFK Plaza) is one of the best-known spots in Center City. The iconic Robert Indiana sculpture makes a great statement when paired with the ultimate romantic gesture! If that spot is a little bit too public for you, there’s another version on the University of Pennsylvania campus. It’s surrounded by gorgeous buildings and greenery,

Philadelphia Museum of Art

The PMA is an iconic Philadelphia landmark. I’ve shot so many weddings and engagements there! There are a couple of great proposal spots, but my personal favorite is at the top of the steps. I can easily conceal myself behind a pillar until the big moment comes. When it does, the amazing Philadelphia skyline will rise up behind you.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

The Magic Gardens are the perfect proposal spot for a couple with a more offbeat aesthetic. The entire “garden” is an art installation, and every spot provides a unique photo. It’s usually better to hit this spot on a weekday, when it’s not so crowded. It’s quite the hotspot, but if you can secret yourselves away for an intimate moment, I can hide around a corner and jump in when the time is right.

John F. Collins Park

This Center City District gem on 17th and Chestnut is a beautiful, secluded spot. It has incredible sculptured gates at both entrances and a fountain in the middle. Every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1:30 pm there is music playing in the park–the perfect soundtrack to your proposal!
