Spring has officially sprung! Apart from that cold snap that snuck in earlier last week, the weather’s been warm and sunny. It’s the perfect weather for Philadelphia engagement photography.
In addition to choosing a great Philadelphia engagement photography location, it’s always a good idea to have an activity planned for your engagement session. Ideally, it’ll be something that represents you as a couple, or that links with your wedding’s theme in some way. Here are some fun things you can do to take advantage of the gorgeous weather:
Garden Walk
Spring means that gardens everywhere are bursting into bloom. What could be a more beautiful engagement session than spending an afternoon among the flowers? If you or your significant other are into gardening, we can do it in your backyard. If not, there are lots of places we can go. Longwood Gardens is a popular choice, or we can visit the Philadelphia Gardens, the Morris Arboretum, or Bartram’s Garden. Be aware, though–some of those places require a reservation and/or a fee before we’ll be allowed to shoot.
Picnic
Picnics are as romantic as they are simple to plan. All you need to do is grab a basket and a blanket and head to your favorite picnicking spot for an afternoon of Philadelphia engagement photography! You can pick one of the gardens I mentioned and make a day trip of it, or just head over to Fairmount Park or Rittenhouse Square. Anywhere where there’s a meadow will work.
Lavender Farm Visit
Lavender happens to be one of the many flowers that begins to thrive in the spring. And as it happens, there are several lavender farms in the area surrounding Philadelphia that make fabulous settings for engagement photos. Peace Valley Lavender Farm is in Doylestown, PA, and has a farm with a view of the Peace Valley Park and Lake Galena. Carousel Farm is also in Bucks County, just outside of New Hope. Both farms have amazing stores, so you can pick up some bath or culinary products while you’re there!
Greenhouse Stroll
Spring weather isn’t always cooperative. If it’s rainy or there’s still a bit of a chill in the air, we can head to a heated greenhouse to get the same sense of spring that we’d get outside. Personally, I think it’s hard to do better than the Philadelphia Horticulture Center. There’s a gorgeous greenhouse and outdoor space in case the weather clears up, and they host weddings and other events, too.
Waterside Engagement Session
The Philadelphia area has tons of creeks, lakes, and rivers. Lots of the parks I already mentioned have spots that are perfect for a romantic boat outing for two–or three, if you want to count me! Lake Galena is a great spot, as is Marsh Creek Lake. We can also head over to one of the buildings along Boathouse Row for some great riverside pictures, too.
