Why We Love Grooms + Groomsmen

Typically, a wedding day focuses in on the bride – and rightfully so. She has put in a lot of time and effort into the planning and all the little details of the day. Her dress is a show stopper, her shoes to die for and the priceless family heirloom she has for her something borrowed is a gorgeous homage to her heritage. But, there’s another person who deserves their spot in the limelight too – the one who made the whole wedding possible: her groom.

When I am not booked personally, I second shoot for Ashley and I am often photographing the gentlemen for the pre ceremony getting ready stage. I have seen it all! I have had a groom answer his hotel door in a towel, I know the answer to the age old question “boxers or briefs”, and I have even been forced to partake in a pre wedding shot of Fireball out of a dinosaur Dixie cup shot glass. Yes, I said forced. Being with the guys has never been an issue for me, I grew up with more guy friends than girl friends, so I gel instantly with the guys. Although it doesn’t hurt that I love football, can return witty banter, and come up with some pretty awesome “that’s what she said” jokes.

But all joking aside, I love being able to help the groom and his guys get some of the attention. I love getting to see his face when he sees his bride for the first time that day, and then capturing his looks of adoration and complete affection for his new wife. Grooms seriously know how to be SO sweet. I love watching his best man acknowledge the importance of his role in the day and take it seriously, even while having lots of fun, and hearing his other dudes share embarrassing stories about when he was five and dressed in a tutu. I think it’s the bees knees when the newlyweds are partying with their closest friends and family and the guys can really cut a rug (that’s what she said). Sorry, force of habit.

Girls just wanna have fun, but guys actually do have a lot of fun. And I’m always happy to be a part of that!

Groom's portraits are important too - I love having one of my husband hanging in our house.

The details with the guys are fun too! Especially cufflinks, I love cufflinks.

A favorite thing is when we have a couple posed, and the groom can't take it anymore and just has to pull his bride close into a big bear hug.
