Facial hair is something of a fraught issue for guys. Shaving isn’t everyone’s favorite activity, but a full beard can look messy and unkempt. Hopefully, by the time you’re getting ready for your Center City wedding photography session, you’ll have decided on the look that’s right for you.
However, if you’re still deciding, here are a few thoughts on how to navigate the world of facial hair:
Stubble
Stubble doesn’t equal scruffy anymore! Lots of celebrities are appearing on the red carpet with a five o’clock shadow: Bradley Cooper, George Clooney, and Ben Affleck, to name a few. More and more grooms are following suit at their weddings.
If you’re not a fan of the clean-shaven look, or if you’re prone to razor bumps, the stubble look might be right for you. Don’t think it’s a way out of grooming yourself before your wedding day, though. You’ll still need to use a trimmer to keep everything tidy. Trust me, a neckbeard will never be in style!
Beard
The rule is the same for grooms as it is for brides: Don’t drastically change your look on your wedding day! If you rock a full beard normally, don’t go shaving it off. This is especially true if you don’t feel like yourself when you’re bare-faced. Just make sure you have a clean neck and cheeks. If possible, get it professionally trimmed.
Clean-Shaven
If you tend to oscillate between a clean-shaven look and a scruffy one, go with the clean look for your wedding day. You’ll feel more fresh and look more polished. Plus, a good shave is one of the few pampering regimens that guys can engage in prior to the wedding!
A shaving kit makes a great groomsmen’s gift. Get one for yourself, too, and you can give yourself a legendary shave the morning of your wedding! A good-quality multi-blade razor is pretty standard, although safety razors are making a comeback. Nothing parallels the closeness of a safety razor shave.
Another option is seeing a barber and getting a professional shave the morning of your wedding. This is a great activity for the groom and groomsmen to do together to relax, bond, and get the smoothest shave of their lives.
Other Facial Hair
Sideburns, nose hairs, eyebrows–they all need to be groomed for your wedding day. Sideburns can be sculpted by your barber, or you can do it at home if you have a high-quality trimmer. Nose hair trimmers are the recommended tool for that particular problem, and stray eyebrow hairs can easily be tweezed. Have your bride help you with that last one if you need it! You can also go somewhere to get waxed, but a lot of guys aren’t a fan of overly sculpted eyebrows.
