Spring Wedding Flower Arrangements

Ridley Creek Mansion Wedding Photography-7

It’s finally March, which means spring is just a few weeks away! I’m so excited for everything spring brings to the Philadelphia wedding photography industry. Wedding season, venturing outdoors with my clients, and beautiful flowers are all right around the corner!

It’s far more cost-effective to build your bouquet from flowers that are in season, and spring is such a great season for flowers. Here are some creative ways you can use flowers in almost every part of your wedding, along with some examples of seasonal buds you can use:

Cascading Bouquets

The stiff, manicured bouquet has fallen out of favor, and looser, more natural bouquets are in! A wide variety of flowers work beautifully in this kind of arrangement. Since the silhouette is more relaxed, the flowers will be able to hold their natural shape. Vines and leaves are great for creating interesting shapes, as well. These will work in almost any combination:

  • Tree peonies
  • Sweet peas
  • Lilacs
  • Clematis
  • Black lace elderberries
  • Wire vine

Eclectic Tablescapes

Lisa and Joe’s Hunting Hill Mansion wedding used an array of mismatched vases to hold a multitude of floral displays. Eclectic tablescapes are very much in line with rustic or vintage-inspired weddings. It’s especially perfect if you like secondhand or antique shopping. You can spend the months leading up to your wedding hitting the flea markets and finding cute vases! The great thing about the eclectic style is that the more kinds of flowers and plants you combine, the better your display will look. Try a combination of these:

  • Ranunculus
  • Protea
  • Hosta “Fair Maiden” leaves
  • Hyacinths
  • Lily of the valley
  • Lamb’s ear

Escort Displays

What better way to help guests find their seats than with a pretty flower? It can be as simple as putting a single bud in a tiny glass vase for each guest. Or, you can jump on the succulent trend and give each guest a potted cactus. Here are a few flowers and plants that work as escort cards:

  • Daisies
  • Billy balls
  • Aloe
  • Agave
  • Wheat grass
  • Herbs

Floral Favors

Wish your guests a happy spring by handing out flower favors! Bulbs make a great thank-you gift, especially if you’re entertaining a crowd with green thumbs. You can buy online in bulk, and hand out instructions for planting them. Some bulbs, like yellow tulips, daffodils, and crocuses, can be planted in the fall and will bloom the spring. Tuberous begonias, gladiolus, and dahlias will all bloom in the summer, and can be planted in the spring. If you go the bulb route, make sure you create a display of each flower you’re giving out, so guests can see the fruits of their work.

What flowers will you be using in your spring wedding? Tell me about your arrangements in the comments!
