Tips + Tricks | Emergency Kit

We’ve all been there. The wedding ceremony starts in fifteen minutes and oh no! the zipper on the brides dress breaks, or there’s a smudge of makeup on a dress, or someone breaks a nail. We pride ourselves on being prepared for pretty much anything that can happen on your wedding day. How you may ask? Our handy dandy emergency kit! Today, we’ll share with you just a few of the things we keep on hand for every wedding.

First and foremost, we have a sewing kit. Popped buttons, broken zippers, small tears, these things happen, but we are prepared for them. We make sure that we have a few different colored threads to make it easier to match the fabric and that it’s easily accessible. We had a bride last year who had her zipper break and her bridesmaid was a fashion major. She was able to sew her into the dress using the sewing kit. Crisis averted.

We keep emery boards on hand. Especially with chiffon dresses being so prevalent, a broken nail is a recipe for an awful evening full of catching your dress and creating pulls and sometimes tears. We short circuit that vicious cycle by handing you an emery board. Bam! No more rough nail to catch your beautiful dress, or scratch some poor unsuspecting person on the dance floor.

Tide to go! Every mom will tell you that this has saved many an outfit, so will many brides! A little smudge of makeup get on your dress? Tide to go! Spilled a bit of coffee on your suit? Tide to go! Flower girl get into some chocolate before the wedding? Tide to go! Seriously, this stuff is magic. Every photographer should have it on hand.

We also have makeup remover towelettes. This is less for brides and bridesmaids, since they’ve just spent a pretty penny getting all dolled up, and more for grooms and groomsmen who may have been kissed by their great aunt and now have a bright red lip print on their cheek. Women know that lipstick is hard to just rub off, so we have makeup remover on hand to get rid of those without smudging it everywhere or risking it getting on their suit. The only acceptable lip prints on your wedding come from your bride!

For the bride and bridesmaids though, we do bring oil blotters. Your makeup is meant to have a matte finish, but throughout the day oil can creep back through, giving you a sheen that you don’t want to see in your images. Fear not! Oil blotters are an easy solution to erasing shine while keeping your amazing makeup pristine.

Those are just a few things we keep with us. We have much more to handle other emergencies. But before we sign off today, we wanted to share one more thing we have on hand. Mini bottles of booze! Sometimes nerves are a little frayed, emotions run high, or things feel chaotic and the bride is starting to get frazzled. We like to offer the alcohol if it seems appropriate as it can really help take the edge off and help calm stressed brides or panicky grooms. Even if they refuse it, sometimes just the offer can provide a laugh and a break in the tension that helps everyone loosen up and relax.
