Using Pantone’s Color of the Year in Your 2015 Wedding

Philadelphia Wedding Photography | Pantone Color of the Year 2015: Marsala

We’re just coming off the holiday season and entering a new year. Lots of newly engaged couples are entering the planning stages of their weddings, from setting a date to hiring their vendors! The Philadelphia wedding photography business is going to receive an influx of clients, and with it, an influx of new wedding trends.

Pantone recently announced its Spring 2015 palette. It centered around a minimalistic, natural theme, anchored by the color “marsala”. It’s an earthy shade of red-brown that’s more muted than last year’s radiant orchid. However, it’s still adaptable to all kinds of color stories for any wedding! Here are a few ideas for using marsala in every season:

Winter

A warm red like marsala is the perfect color for a winter wedding. A photoshoot with a snowy backdrop calls for a pop of color. Marsala is assertive enough to stand out, but muted enough to be paired with a flashy metallic color. Gold, rose gold, or copper are all winter wedding-friendly!

Spring

Spring isn’t typically associated with earthy colors. Pair marsala with blush pink, coral, or lilac, and you’ll have a perfect spring palette! Try combining it with a gradient of pinks to create an ombre theme. Ombre looks beautiful on stationery, floral arrangements, ceremony backdrops, and even cakes!

Summer

Marsala is a terra cotta-like shade, perfect for a desert-inspired wedding! Accessorize with turquoise jewelry for a boho-chic look. Silver is a more traditional metal to pair with turquoise, but gold is the perfect addition to a marsala-centric palette. Supplement your color story with warm neutrals, like sandstone and custard.

Fall

It’s not a stretch to envision marsala fitting into a fall palette. It could be represented among other earth tones, like an array of leaf-inspired colors. For a more creative twist, try a few accents in copper and cream, or a few shades of green, like woodbine, treetop, and lucite green.

I’m excited to see what other trends 2015 will bring! What things do you see coming down the pipeline for weddings this year? Tell me your predictions in the comments!
