One of our favorite parts of this crazy job we get to do is getting to see brides before everyone else does. We get to see the wedding dress still on the hanger, as it’s getting zipped or buttoned, and the first moment a bride wears her dress on her wedding day. This year featured some incredible dresses and, while we wish we could show off everyone, these six are worth another look.
Dorothy – A Monique Lhuillier Vision
We start with this incredible dress worn by Dorothy as she wed her love, Zach. Dorothy’s impeccable taste led her to this creation from Monique Lhuillier. We absolutely fawned over how this dress utilized layers and contrasting fabrics. The satin and tulle layered delicately to create a silhouette that evokes thoughts of Cinderella. The rosettes play peekaboo and give this gown a feminine touch that is perfectly balanced. All the gathering in the fabrics kept the feeling light yet royal. The illusion neckline and her simple cathedral length veil completed this look for one that had us swooning all day. This wedding dress will forever make us think of elegance and class – just like Dorothy.
Jamie – Lam Couture Jumpsuit & Stunning Liancarlo Gown
When you have two ceremonies, a good way to keep each one unique is to have two looks. That is exactly what Jamie did when she and Ross tied the knot twice in one day. For the intimate church ceremony, Jamie opted for a simple but bold jumpsuit from Lam Couture. We loved the plunging neckline, bejeweled belt, and the perfect ankle length of the pant leg. It allowed her bright blue Badgley Mischka’s to pop. The fascinator in her perfectly pixie cut hair was a wonderful complement to this first ensemble, and translated extremely well to the second.
For the ceremony at Knowlton Mansion, Jamie slipped into a stunning gown from Liancarlo. This wedding dress defined light and elegant. The perfect lace detail that crept up from the sweetheart cut top into the illusion neckline and open back was perfectly delicate. The fitted bodice and mermaid silhouette was utterly elegant. The mid-length train was super light lace that flowed behind Jamie and made it seem like she was floating. These two ensembles highlighted so much of Jamie’s personality, bold and classy, elegant and feminine. Truly wonderful choices for her wedding day!
Sara – BHLDN Wedding Dress Whimsy
Sara’s BHLDN gown was a beautiful example of an organic feel from her BHLDN wedding dress. Just dusting the ground, it had no train, making it perfect for our barefoot bride. The intricate lace work throughout the entire dress gave it an ethereal feel. We loved the eye catching points of the twisted straps that led into a criss-crossed back, then back into the belt across the natural waist. This dress was so at home in the lush natural setting of their wedding. It was almost like it had been crafted by sprites for just such an occasion. Light and versatile, Sara simply floated through her wedding day in this dress.
Aviva – Light & Airy Offering by Truvelle
In the heat of the summer, you need a dress that is light as the summer breeze, and that is exactly what Aviva’s dress was. This satin and chiffon creation by Truvelle, and purchased from our friends at Ashe B & Co, used the chiffon layer to achieve a fun and flirty look. The gathered fabric created interesting angles and the look of wind flowing through the dress, even when all was still. We adored the open lace-up back and the dusty rose sash that tied into a dainty bow. The spaghetti straps were perfect for the deep sweetheart neckline, providing the needed support without heavy boning in the satin bodice. Every angle of this wedding dress looked incredible and was perfect for Aviva’s summertime wedding.
Deisy – Lovely Lace & Darling Details from Leanne Marshall
The trend of no-train dresses this year started with Deisy’s darling dress from Leanne Marshall. The light and airy chiffon layers in the skirt, which featured a surprising and daring slit, draped delicately from the natural waist. A great choice for the warm (dare we say hot) June weather. But the real showstopper of this dress is the lace and button detail in the bodice. We loved the lace that covered the deep v-neck and back. And the buttons on the front of the wedding dress added an extra layer of sweetness to the whole ensemble. This dress was a delightful marriage of sweet and daring.
Katie – An Amsale Dream with Sweet Surprises
Finally, when we got to Avalon for Katie’s wedding, we were instantly smitten with her wedding dress from Amsale. It boasted a fitted bodice with a deep sweetheart top and, when she turned around, a lace illusion back that made our hearts skip. The light taffeta skirt shimmered slightly and caught every breeze that swept in from the ocean. The belt around the natural waist closed with five dainty buttons. The whole dress was the picture of dramatic simplicity. A lovely dress for her summer by-the-beach wedding!
