If you’ve just gotten engaged, now’s the time to begin planning your wedding! Even if you want to take it easy and spread the process out over a couple of years, you should have an end goal in mind. Picking your date is the first part of the wedding planning process, and if you haven’t picked one already, you should. You’ll need to have your date decided on to book pretty much any vendor you have your eye on, including your Philadelphia wedding photographer.
If you’re having trouble narrowing it down, choosing the season in which you want to get married can help you decide. Each season has pros and cons, and I’ve broken them down for you to help you make your decision:
Spring
Pros:
- When spring weather is good, it’s really good! Not to hot, not too cold–the perfect weather for an outdoor ceremony.
- Spring brides have the option of choosing from a variety of flowers that are in season, which means they won’t be so expensive. Lilies, peonies, and roses are some examples of your choices if you have a spring wedding.
- Brides that love pastels or bright, cheerful colors will love the possibilities that a spring wedding offers.
Cons:
- Spring weather can be unpredictable. If it rains, you may find yourself having to move your ceremony indoors.
- Depending on where you live, you might experience an unforeseen cold snap on the day of your wedding.
Summer
Pros:
- The weather is virtually guaranteed to be warm and sunny!
- Your guests are more likely to be available during the summer months, which bring vacation season, school breaks, and more relaxed work schedules.
- Bright, vibrant colors are in season, along with flowers and fruit. This leaves you with a lot of decorating and theme possibilities.
Cons:
- Summer is also known as prime wedding season, so it might be hard for you to book the vendors you want.
- Because summer is such a popular wedding season, you might find yourself paying more at your venue.
- The temperatures during summer months can top 100 degrees, which can make for an uncomfortable ceremony.
Fall
Pros:
- Fall is a great season for lovers of earth tones, both muted and rich.
- Fall foliage makes for amazing wedding photos!
- It’s incredibly easy to plan a wedding with a fall theme. Gourds, leaves, apples, pumpkins–the possibilities are endless!
Cons:
- Fall is the time of year when the weather starts to turn cold. If you’re planning an evening ceremony, this may prevent you from holding it outdoors.
- Fall is a big season for storms, which could also require you to take it inside.
- Fewer flowers are in season during the autumn than in spring or summer, which could impact your budget.
Winter
Pros:
- Love red? It looks incredible against a background of bright white snow.
- Winter wedding photos are always unique. Snow acts as a natural light deflector, so you’ll look incredible, and people who see your photos will always ask you, “How did you do that?”!
- Winter is by far the cheapest season for weddings.
Cons:
- An outdoor ceremony is pretty much out of the question.
- Some snow is great, but too much might prevent your guests from attending your wedding.
- The holidays are a time when many people are strapped for cash and time. You might find yourself with fewer guests, especially if they’ll need to travel.
