2016: A Year of Consistency
I suck at making New Year’s resolutions. Ask anyone who knows me at all. They’re either completely unattainable and grandiose, like work out every day and eat nothing but salads for a month, or they set the bar so low I can step over it, like turn 27. I think that part of my problem is that I am, at my core, a realist. As a realist, I don’t like dreaming of best possible scenarios because I am inevitably disappointed when it doesn’t happen. However, this year I got a little kick in the pants from Ashley, and have taken some time to consider the importance of setting goals that stretch you and working hard to achieve them.

I have a love affair with pens and notebooks and use many to keep track of my various goals and daily operations.
Last month, we had our first goal setting staff meeting, and over some pizza and wine, we discussed the business, my role in it and what our goals for the year would be. I came prepared with some goals that I thought were achievable and worth working toward. After sharing them with Ashley, she kindly pointed out that they seemed to be somewhat small or things that were actually part of a larger goal. After teasing out a bit of why I was setting goals that didn’t stretch me, we discussed some new goals and strategies for making them a reality.
That meeting was a catalyst for me to think through what I really want my largest goal for the year to be: consistency. I wear a lot of hats and juggle many things in my day to day life. Being a wife, a mother, a photographer, an employee, a friend, a blogger, a housekeeper, a daughter, sister and matron of honor and a person who needs time to herself too. It’s easy in the rush of life to feel overwhelmed, to lose sight of my goals, and to fall behind on everything. This year, as I work towards my revamped and beefed up goals – with the help of Ashley, my husband Peter, friends and my AWESOME Spark Notebook Planner – I want to establish consistency. If I can consistently make time to plan out my week and remind myself of my broader goals, I will count that as success. If I can consistently execute the daily chore chart I made, I will count that as success. If I can consistently drink 64 ounces of water a day, I will count that as success. If I am not consistently achieving these goals, I want to be consistent in figuring out why, and make changes. I want to be known for my consistency and that is how I will measure my success.

If you need a great planner, Spark Notebook is amazing. Yearly, monthly and weekly goals and some great questions to help jumpstart your brain.
One goal I have is to update you on how this is going for me and encourage you all to implement small systems into your day that will help you achieve consistency and reach and even surpass your goals for 2016.
xo, Rachel
