Catherine and Paul’s incredible Knowlton Mansion wedding was a beautiful affair that perfectly encapsulated their long romance and set them on a firm foundation as husband and wife.
This couple knows the meaning of the word romance, in fact, I think they invented it. After a conference in Milan, Catherine took a train to Rome where she and Paul had planned to spend a week together leading up to a detour to Florence. While there, they arose early to beat the crowds and climbed the 463 stairs of the stunning Duomo Cathedral and there, on the balcony of the cupola, with the stunning city laid out below, Paul asked for Catherine to be his wife and she said yes. Oh, and afterwards, they spent a week in Paris to celebrate. So yeah, this couple knows romance and when they asked us to be there to capture their wedding, we were thrilled!
When we arrived to photograph Catherine, she was the picture of grace as she had the finishing touches of her makeup put on. Her Anne Barge dress was hung with great care, and all of her beautiful jewelry was laid out for us. Her maid of honor had given her a lovely macaron jewelry box that was a perfect addition to the delicate jewels. After a short drive to the mansion, she slipped into her dress and affixed her earrings, completing the vision.
Meantime, Paul had arrived in his Brooks Brothers suit and put on his tie, handpicked by his fiancé to complement the dots in her dress. His cufflinks were engraved with the coordinates of the beautiful Duomo Cathedral where he proposed and Knowtlon Mansion, where they would start the next chapter of their journey. He had an air of quiet excitement, remaining poised but with a joyful charge that he held within his breast just below the surface. Anytime someone mentioned Catherine, he smiled broadly. When it was time for their first look, the excitement was palpable.
Catherine said that the first look was one of her favorite moments. Getting to see each other all dressed up and have a few moments to be together and relax, just them (and us, but we don’t really count) before spending the rest of the day with friends and family. As they embraced, it was golden moment in an already golden day.
After a beautiful outdoor ceremony officiated by their dear friend Owen, they skipped into their reception. Their first dance to Reflecting Light by Sam Phillips was light and full of joy as they took the floor as husband and wife. Their guests were then treated to an incredible feast and an open wine cellar. We made sure to get some photographs of the newlyweds down there before the wine was too heavily imbibed.
We truly did not want to say goodnight and goodbye to this couple. Their sweet love and profound kindness sets them apart as one of our absolute sweetest couples we’ve had the pleasure of knowing. This beautiful wedding and couple will remain with us for a long time to come and we wish them all the best in their life together.
