Glen Foerd Mansion wedding | Alison Stuart & David Drew

This year on Cinco de Mayo, Alison and David tied the knot in an exquisite and joy-filled Glen Foerd Mansion wedding. The sum total of meticulous planning and lots of excitement, the day had finally arrived and it was definitely one for the books.

Getting Ready at the Lokal Hotel

Alison and her bridesmaids opted to start the day in Old City (a nice throwback to their engagement session) at the Lokal Hotel. When we walked in, the room was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was in high spirits and looked amazing. They’d had hair and makeup done at a local salon, and were just enjoying being together, celebrating Alison and David. We were able to photograph Alison’s beautiful Watter’s gown and all the blush bridesmaids dresses in the window, and then we made for Glen Foerd Mansion.

When we arrived at Glen Foerd, we were struck by the bespoke beauty of this Delaware River mansion. Stately and well maintained, this elegant historic home was the perfect place for Alison and David to get married.

In Bridal Suite at Glen Foerd Mansion

This was one of the most gorgeous bridal suites we’ve ever seen. The wall of windows, original hardwood flooring, and gentle white wall color, made this a photographer’s dream. And Alison was the perfect subject.

To say that Alison was excited to be getting married that day would be a gross understatement. Every five seconds, she was breaking out into a wide smile. She couldn’t help but play with her dress constantly. We loved how she kept tossing the chiffon layers to and fro, swinging back and forth and twirling round. Her joy was contagious. After some help from her mother, the buttons were done up and it was time for the first look.

First Look at Glen Foerd Mansion

A very dapper David was waiting on the lovely garden path for his stunning bride. The morning had been fun and full of laughs for him, but the nerves started to build as the time drew near for his Glen Foerd Mansion wedding. And as he waited for Alison, a nervous smile was on his face. The second she touched his shoulder, the dam broke. A flood of relief and joy swept over the both of them. And they fell together in complete harmony.

Alison laughed and twirled around, giving David a full view of her gorgeous dress. She admired his suit and the tie that perfectly matched the bridesmaid dresses. It was their wedding day and they were together at the start of forever.

We wandered through the beautiful property of Glen Foerd and photographed these two to our hearts content. One of our favorite moments was when they picked dandelions and made wishes before blowing them away. Sometimes the in-between moments are the best.

The Glen Foerd Mansion Wedding Ceremony

The lawn at Glen Foerd was picturesque and lush, and the arbor under which Alison and David would say I do was gorgeously decorated by Snapdragon Flowers. The guests were seated, and the moment had arrived. Alison linked arms with her father, gave him a glance that asked if he was ready, and they started their procession.

Sometimes couples will ask us if a first look ruins the moment of the groom seeing the bride coming down the aisle. It doesn’t. You can ask David. As Alison made her way to him, his eyes welled and you could see him have his breath stolen by her. It had been a long time coming, and now it was here. They would be husband and wife in a matter of moments, and that was all that mattered.

In a unique twist, Alison and David incorporated some other traditions in their wedding ceremony. Borrowing from the Jewish tradition, they had 7 blessings read. And in a beautiful inclusion of their families, they had their parents join them to combine the unity sand.

Their officiant – their former softball team captain, who had just broken his foot – delivered a wonderful, one legged message. He pronounced them husband and wife and the crowd erupted. We’ve never seen a smile as big as Alison’s as they walked back down the aisle as newlyweds. It was epic.

Reception At Their Glen Foerd Mansion Wedding

David surprised his brand new wife with a surprise piano performance. This sweet moment was punctuated with laughter as nervous fingers missed a key or two, but Alison soaked in every second. Then it was time for the party to really get going.

They shared a choreographed first dance and ended with the most perfect dip! We will be forever grateful to Alison for her forethought to let us know exactly where they’d end up to dip so we could capture it perfectly. From there, the tone of the night was set. The parent dances were sweet and brought a tear to our eye, and then the party raged on.
