You know what they say: the devil is in the details! I like to think that wedding details can make or break a wedding. They’re a huge part of my storytelling approach to weddings.
If you have enough coordinating details, they will take your wedding to the next level. Here are a few tips for preparing your personal details, from the getting-ready stages to the last minutes of the reception.
When planning a Philadelphia wedding, lists will be your best friend!
- Decide what details are essential, which are negotiable, and which details you can do without.
- When your list is complete, go shopping! Check things off as you acquire them.
- Keep an inventory. Organize it by day part. Don’t forget to make a list for details that won’t be traveling with you, i.e. ceremony reception decorations.
- Give me your finalized list! That way, you’ll be guaranteed to have photos of everything you worked so hard on.
I can make any array of details look like a million-dollar spread! That said, there are some things you can do to get lots of variety in your photos:
- I look for neutral, but still interesting, backdrops. I’ve used everything from bouquets and veils to windowsills and ottomans. The more stuff you have, the more stuff I can use!
- Hands are a hugely expressive body part, and I might take the opportunity to photograph your jewelry in (or on) them. No worries, though, if you’re a star gymnast with the palms of a longshoreman. That’s part of your story! Rock it! If you’re self-conscious, that’s what manicures are for.
Lighting is one of the most important things–actually, it’s probably the most important thing–in Philadelphia wedding photography. That’s why I have a bag of tricks that can turn any light (or lack of light…) into a great photo. Here are a few things you can do to help!
- Consider your space. Natural light is always best, and big windows go a long way toward letting the light in!
- Curtains or blinds are equally as useful, so we can adjust or soften the light as needed.
- If your photos are your priority, keep these things in mind when choosing your getting ready, ceremony, reception, and portrait spaces. If you’re not sure, drop me a line and ask away! I’m always happy to give advice, especially if it’ll help you get photos you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
