Pantone’s fashion color report named Radiant Orchid as the color of the year. It’s been integrated into a variety of seasonal palettes, including the one for fall 2014. I’ve already begun seeing rich jewel tones at my September Philadelphia wedding photography gigs. They’ve always been a staple of fall wedding palettes, and this year is no different!
In addition to the Pantone palette, there are lots of fall wedding trends that are making appearances this year. Here are a few of my favorites:
Naked Wedding Cakes
This trend has been all the rage this year. Rustic weddings are also popular all year long, but fall is the perfect season for them, and for naked cakes! Who knew that all that icing was only covering up the pretty cake inside? They’re usually decorated with sugared fruit, but fall foliage is also a nice touch.
Casual Bouquets
Formal bouquets don’t quite mesh with a fall wedding’s casual vibe. Ribbon is usually used to tie bouquets, but for a rustic wedding, twine, lace an antique handkerchief, or a combination looks really cute. I’m also seeing more casual flowers, like daisies, sunflowers, or gathered wildflowers. For centerpieces, an eclectic combination of antique vases, jars, and pitchers can hold flowers.
Not-Quite-White Dresses
This is one of my favorite trends of all time. Instead of snow-white gowns, brides are opting for delicate shades of pistachio, blush pink, gray, cream, and even light blue. These colors are great because your dress still looks white at a glance, and the hint of color is a pleasant surprise.
Braids
Braided wedding hair is perfect for a lot of themes, but it’s uniquely suited for the styles that are popular for fall. Braids are also incredibly versatile. You can turn your hair into an intricate nest, or weave your hair into a braid crown. A long plait down your back is perfect for a romantic look, or you can wear your hair half-up with a french braid.
