The Free Library of Philadelphia:
Book-lover's Paradise with an Amazing View

For all the bookworms out there, is there anything better than getting married in one of the most historic libraries in the country? How about one that has an amazing view of the Philadelphia skyline? The Free Library is both these things and so much more.

Things we love about weddings at the Free Library:

  1. The Skyline Terrace
Step outside the fourth floor onto the Skyline Terrace and enjoy the view of the city as it comes to life in the evening. It's the perfect location for either an al fresco cocktail hour or an outdoor tented reception. It's a rare outdoor space for celebration in the midst of the city.
  2. The Main Lobby
This magnificent space boasts Beaux Arts architecture and is perfect for a ceremony or reception. It's hard to make a more dramatic entrance than walking down the beautiful marble stairs into your ceremony.
  3. Brulee Catering
It's almost impossible to beat out the impressive hospitality of the team at Brulee Catering. With a team led by chef Jean-Marie Lacroix (of the impeccable Lacroix at the Rittenhouse), the flavors and presentation will take your guest's breath away! With menus that are always delicious masterpieces, you and your guests will be in foodie heaven!.

The Free Library of Philadelphia:
Things to think about?

Books, books, books. . . If you're considering adding your love story to the droves of romances held in the Free Library's stacks, here are a few thoughts you should keep in mind.

Things to consider about the Free Library of Philadelphia:

  1. Slow & Tiny
The elevators necessary for accessing the fourth floor and Skyline Terrace do run slowly. Encouraging able-bodied guests to use the stairs can help alleviate a pinch point and also gives them the chance to experience the library's grandeur to the fullest.
  2. Band or DJ
The fourth floor reception room is on the more intimate side, so a band may not be a feasible option. Whereas there is much more space for a band in the grand lobby, the stone architecture and vaulted ceilings can make for challenging acoustics. Bands may be best suited to a tented reception on the terrace. Consider your plans for entertainment and make sure you plan your celebration location accordingly.
  3. The Famed Stacks
You MUST get some portraits in the stacks. It's one of the most identifying things about a wedding at the Free Library. But we're only allowed in certain areas of the library for portrait sessions, so make sure that you know what's okay and what's off limits.
