It’s hard to believe that it has been almost exactly two years to the date since the last time we had the chance to spend an afternoon at Ridley Creek State Park with Kristen & Nick! But that was how long we had to wait between their beautiful Parque wedding day and having the chance to finally meet their newest addition, Nate, for their family portrait session in May. Because Nate was born in the height of the 2020 pandemic, these two opted out of the usual lifecycle sessions that we love to offer our expecting couples, so it was even sweeter to finally capture these moments for them, as a family of 3 people.
When Kristen & Nick reached out about taking family photos to commemorate that Nate was nine months old, we knew that we wanted to go back to where their family began – Ridley Creek! And we also know that their awesome Golden Doodle, Dario Doodle would be joining in on the fun. I first had the chance to meet Dario when he was a new pup for Kristen & Nick’s engagement session and now he is the older fur-brother to a new baby!
While nine months may not be the most common milestone to commemorate with a photo session, can I say how fun it was to capture Nate out in nature at this time? He was enthusiastically exploring the world around him and trying to sample all of the different grasses available at Ridley Creek. (Don’t worry, we didn’t let him actually eat grass!) Plus, he was incredibly curious about the camera, willing to sit on his own for a few photos, and even did the cutest hand-waving dance for a few photos.
If you’re up in the air about when to schedule family portraits and waiting for the next birthday or mini session, know that there’s no reason to hold off.
