Sand Castle Winery | A Modern Cake & Punch Reception Editorial

When Sarah French Events gives me a call and says she has a brilliant idea for an editorial shoot that will bring together a ton of our closest Philadelphia wedding friends together at Sand Castle Winery.  And then, she promised me that the day would end in drinking wine together and eating macarons.  I mean, hello!  If you know me at all, you know that she had me hooked!

Add to the excitement the chance to photograph Andrea & Kieran, one of Sarah’s wedding couples from 2017.  Working with these two as a photographer was an extra special treat, since I got to officiate their wedding last June.  Plus, Andrea’s bad ass style really got to come through in the amazing floral-petaled, high-slit skirt of the gowns from Ashe B & Co!

And then, when she started talking to me more of her vision – a vibrantly-colored, retro-style cake and punch reception, set against the backdrop of the vineyards.  Embracing the wine culture of the venue, we paired an epic dessert table, focused around a beautiful sugar flower cake designed by La Linea Desserts and a sangria featuring Sand Castle Winery wine.

The bright orange & yellow color scheme was perfectly displayed throughout the details of the day, from the hand-lettered invitation suite by Narola Designs & Letterpress to the vintage gold wedding jewelry from Stacey Fay Designs.  We even had a bright yellow ice cream cart from Bright Yellow Creamery! (And yes, I indulged in ice cream, too!)

But the frosting on the proverbial wedding cake was the floral faux hawk from Heather Vellner hair & floral jewelry designed by Botaniq Blooms.  It was the iconic floral faux hawk that caught Ariel’s eye over at Offbeat Bride.  To see the feature on her website, check it out!
