It’s so rare to see a bride with a short haircut. I always get so excited when I get to work with one! Short hair is for a certain type of lady: fashion-forward, spunky, and daring. Coincidentally, that’s the kind of bride that I love working with as a Center City wedding photographer!
It’s a total myth that short hair means you’re short on options. If you have short hair, or were considering a cut before you walk down the aisle, here are a few ideas for your ‘do:
Pixie Cut
A pixie cut is a bold look. If you’re a bold bride, consider keeping your hairstyle relatively simple and playing up your makeup. You can do a red lip, a metallic smoky eye, or maybe even both.
Earrings are your friend if you’re sporting a pixie cut. Don’t be afraid to go big! Wear a giant pair of chandelier earrings in lieu of an elaborate hairstyle.
Bob
A bob can be styled simply, allowing your makeup and accessories to shine. You can also style it more creatively. Try french braiding it like Rooney Mara did on the red carpet, or going for a retro look like Drew Barrymore’s finger waves. In fact, retro styling is perfect for hair that’s chin-length or shorter. Think Marilyn Monroe’s voluptuous curls or Dita Von Teese’s sculpted waves.
Short & Curly
If your hair is short and curly, you have lots of options. You can comb them into loose waves, tame them with a chic accessory, or tease them and let them run wild. Whatever you choose, embracing your curls is the way to go!
Accessories
Short hair and accessories are a match made in heaven! I’ve already mentioned earrings, but I want to reinforce how much they can do for your ensemble. The right pair can be total showstoppers.
Birdcage veils are another favorite accessory of mine, and they’re perfection on top of finger waves or another short, retro hairstyle. You could also try a jeweled headband, a sparkly headpiece, or a crystal-encrusted comb.
If you’re more of a nature gal, it doesn’t get much more romantic than weaving flowers into your hair! A crown of blossoms can hold your veil, or you can put a single rose behind your ear.
