Creative Wedding Details in Philadelphia Wedding Photography

Belmont Mansion Wedding (52)

Details are your chance to be creative! I always get so excited when I see all the little touches that a couple has chosen to make their wedding special. That’s what Philadelphia wedding photography is all about!

Here are a few ideas to inspire you if you’re still in the planning stages:

Accessories

Most brides try to wear their something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. These items are supposed to bring good luck, and they’re a great opportunity for creativity. A family heirloom can take care of your “something old”, or you can hit the stores on Antique Row. Look for interesting jewelry, and think about ways it can be re-purposed. A brooch makes a great hair accessory, or you can ask your stylist to wind an antique necklace into your updo.

Your “something new” is a no-brainer–most of the stuff you’ll wear on your wedding day will be new! Traditionally, your “something borrowed” will be borrowed from a friend or relative who is already married. It can be something from their actual wedding, or just an accessory you’ve been eyeing–a fur stole, shoes, or a pair of earrings. If blue isn’t one of your wedding colors, you can paint the soles of your shoes, or use blue rhinestones to stencil “I Do” on the bottoms of them.

Guest Book

The guest book is where your guests will scrawl messages of love and goodwill. A blank book will do the job, but why not be more creative? Guest books are a great way to use your engagement photos–you can make a photo collage for people to write on, or order an engagement photo album with blank pages. Other great ideas I’ve seen are:

  • A thumbprint guest book can be made using a poster of a tree with the thumbprints as leaves.
  • Have guests write messages on slips of paper that form links in a paper chain.
  • Provide scraps of fabric for guests to write on that you’ll later sew into a quilt.

Cake Topper

I’ve seen so many cute and creative cake toppers this year! Check out Julianne and Bobby’s miniature LOVE sculpture and Paige and Ed’s adorable kittens for two different approaches to the cake topper. It can be a physical representation of the couple, like Paige and Ed’s, or a detail that references the wedding’s theme, like Julianne and Bobby’s.

Other ideas are having a custom monogram made into a cake topper, using rhinestones, wire, or having one carved from wood. Miniature buntings are also lovely–those strings of flags that has become so popular with vintage weddings.
