Dogs at Weddings: the Fur Babies who Stole our Hearts

As the entire Mid-Atlantic is prepping for Snow-magedden, I’ve been spending the day working from the home office with the most important two “people” in my life – Rosalind & Bates, my trusty tuxedo pitbulls. If you’ve followed along on either the Ashley Gerrity Photography Instagram story or on my personal page, then you’ve probably seen these two fools – and you know, Rachel is the kid-friendly photographer, but I’m the fur-friendly photographer.  (Truthfully, the whole team is actually friendly with both children & pups.) Over the years, we’ve got to meet many amazing dogs at weddings as they get ready, celebrate, and party at their parents’ weddings.

Dogs at Weddings: The Fur-Babies who Stole our Hearts in 2017

(Special shout out goes to our girl Sophie Coton who has been to two of our weddings in the past few years.)

But 2017 was an extra special year for the fur babies in the AGP family.  We’ve had the chance to meet and photograph even more amazing dogs at weddings than ever before.  From the cutest pugs you’ll ever meet to a dopey ol’ ring-bearer who took a nap mid ceremony, here are the wedding dogs who absolutely stole our hearts this year.

A Pair of Pugs

We’ve already told you how absolutely in love we were with everything about Jamie & Ross‘s wedding, but we absolutely are head over heels for their two little pugs.  These two took over Jamie & Ross’s portrait session with so much personality!  Bonus: They’re coming back into the studio for a family session this spring!

The Sleepy RingBearer

Jerry wasn’t so sure about the whole wedding thing in the beginning.  There were lots of new people to meet and things to smell.  But as the day went along, he was happy to be a part of the festivities.  He was there for the first look and family portraits.  He stood by while his parents signed the Ketubah. However, his real chance to shine came during Sara & Alix’s wedding ceremony, when he had the distinct honor of walking the rings down the aisle and holding them throughout the service.  However, when it was time to deliver the rings, he fell asleep on the job!  No one could blame him though, because at 98 years old (in dog years), weddings can be a little exhausting!

Mack’s First Look

Sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming to have dogs at weddings, especially if they are a jumper or easily stressed out in new situations.  Mack can get a little frazzled when there are too many people around and as he waited for Dorothee to come downstairs for his first look, he wasn’t sure he wanted to stick around.  But as soon as Mack saw his fur-mama in her gorgeous white dress, he lit up like the sunshine!  Your first family photos are so meaningful, but sometimes, a family of three actually has eight legs!

Dog Kisses are the Best Kisses

Fred wasn’t invited to the ceremony.  For some reason, Haddonfield United Methodist had a strict “No dogs at weddings” policy, and he was a dog by nature.  Fred had donned a suit (so what if fit a little tight, he enjoyed those extra kibbles) and waited impatiently.  And as the guests exited the church and Caitlin & Andrew prepared for their first few steps as Mr & Mrs there was one in the crowd far more excited than anyone else.

When they walked out the door in a sea of bubbles, Fred may have jumped a little.  He may have gotten a little excited and made a piddle (off camera, of course). But most importantly, he made sure to get in some special doggy kisses.  And yes, he slipped in some tongue.

Those Puppy Dog Eyes

No matter how many times we see dogs at weddings (and trust me, there isn’t any number that we would deem “enough”), at the end of the day, I’m always most excited to come home to my own crazy two.  So one of the most fun adventures that I had this year was taking Rosalind into the city for her own professional portrait session.

At the end of our winter 2017 boudoir marathon, I still had a few hours to kill at the hotel after the ladies were finished, so I buzzed home and picked up my little lady.  She lounged around the room in a leopard print bathroom and made bedroom eyes for the camera.  And I knew, in the moment, I was the luckiest dog mom on the planet.
