It was a cold and somewhat drizzly day when we arrived at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, NJ for the wedding of Theresa and Arthur (or Arby as most people call him). The day was long anticipated and full of anxious excitement.
Getting ready at the Hyatt Regency
Theresa greeted us at the door with a smile and air of nervousness that quickly melted as she showed off all her beautiful details. Her wedding dress featured a stunning lace back that buttoned up, and the high neck featured such delicate beading that we hesitated to move it. The rest of her details featured lovely pearl accents and, in a move we don’t often see, she chose to wear an anklet as well as her bracelet. Sooner than anyone anticipated it was time to go to the church, and she couldn’t have been more excited.
Meanwhile, Arby was in his room with his groomsmen enjoying a somewhat relaxing few moments as he put the final touches on his suit. It’s always helpful to have some good groomsmen around for when the tie doesn’t want to cooperate. When he was suited up he stood by the window and read the letter that Theresa had sent for him. That sealed the deal. He was ready to go see his bride.
The ceremony at St. Peter the Apostle Church
This church has special significance in the love story of Theresa and Arby. It was on the steps of this church that they met for the first time. They left that meeting thinking that they hadn’t seen the last of each other and they were right! He proposed on those same steps, and after their beautiful ceremony, they stopped for a picture as newlyweds on the steps where it all began.
Portraits on Rutgers Campus
We have been to Rutgers New Brunswick a lot in the last year or so. We’ve done a few engagement photo sessions there, and now can add bridal party and couples portraits to that resume. Considering that it was quite cool and drizzling, the entire bridal party was in great spirits and weathered the less than ideal weather with much grace. We let the kids goof off and did some fun shots with everyone before whisking Theresa and Arby away to Passion Puddle. This popular spot for couples in love seemed to be the perfect backdrop for some portraits of the newlyweds. We found a willow that we hid them beneath and let them keep each other warm. Once we’d finished there, we took a quick trip to an old towpath where they’d enjoyed many runs together. Then it was back to the Hyatt Regency for the reception.
The reception at the Hyatt Regency
The dance floor was massive, which was excellent because everyone was on the floor as soon as they could be. Theresa and Arthur opened the reception with their first dance and it seemed as though everyone else melted away as they danced together. After several toasts and lots of laughs, Theresa shared her father daughter dance and Arby twirled his mom around the floor. The DJ kept the party rocking all night and before we knew it, cake was being cut and we were packing up.
Theresa and Arthur, thank you for letting us be part of your love story! We hope that your honeymoon was amazing. We wish you many years of love and happiness!
