Cara and Shea’s Chauncey Center wedding was such a delight to be part of. From our initial contact with them through the end of their wedding, we just loved this authentic and oh-so-laid-back couple.
A little backstory
Cara and Shea have been together for a long time. So long, they weren’t sure they wanted to get married because it didn’t seem necessary. They decided it was worth it, and recruited Cara’s mother to help plan since they were both busy with school and work. Oh, and Cara was pregnant with their sweet little boy, Desmond. Desmond arrived about three months before the wedding and made the cutest cameo appearances.
Cara and Shea have a deep and abiding love for each other and for their circle of close friends. They had truly unique bridal parties and it was very important to them to have a photographer who was a friend to the LGBT community. We were so happy to be part of this inclusive and accepting wedding.
The delightful details
Cara’s BHLDN dress was gorgeous and so unique. A lovely vision of crocheted beauty. The spaghetti strap halter was so flattering on Cara and when she put it on, everyone was struck by how gorgeous she looked. We loved her touch of whimsy by including purple sparkly Kate Spade flats that included a sixpence for good luck. Her grandmothers beaded bag was her something old as well as a handkerchief from another dear family member. Her beautiful updo was accentuated by fresh florals delicately placed in her hair. She was ready, it was time.
Meanwhile, Shea was getting increasingly nervous even though he was all dressed and ready to go. His friends did their best, but ultimately it took a little help from Mr. Scotch to help calm the anxious man. He just needed to see Cara. With his wonderful blue suit and wine tie in place, we placed him at the bottom of the stairs and asked Cara to come see him.
Their first look, ceremony, and portraits at the Chauncey Center
After he’d taken a deep breath, Cara came down the stairs to Shea and he lit up. He was so so excited to see her and they embraced as those who have weathered many things together. She is his comfort, he is her smile. And when someone brought Desmond out to them, their little family and their joy was complete.
Then it was time. As a family they walked down the aisle. They made some beautiful vows to each other, Shea even leaning in to whisper something to Cara. It was so moving that even Shea’s brother started tearing up. They exchanged rings and sealed the whole thing with a kiss. They were husband and wife, partners in life and love for the rest of their days.
With the remaining time we had before the reception, we found a tree with gorgeous autumn leaves and shot away, after having some fun with the bridal party that is. Cara and Shea loved getting a few moments with just the two of them. They were just thrilled to be together. And it showed in their photos.
The reception at the Chauncey Center
Cara and Shea are loved by so many, and their family holds them in high regard. There were many speeches and toasts honoring the newlyweds. And man, they know how to party! The dance floor was always packed. People had a spectacular time and we had such fun capturing all the amazing moments.
Cara and Shea, we hope that your life as a married couple has brought you such joy and happiness. We know that you will be amazing parents and Desmond is a wonderful little boy. We wish you all the best!
