It was a spectacular June Saturday when we arrived at the Michener Museum (run by our good friends at Catering by Design) for Alison and Jovan’s special wedding day. From the outset, we knew this was a wedding that would linger with us, and it certainly has!
Getting Ready at the Michener Museum
Alison arrived shortly after we did, a cool as a cucumber. She was absolutely unflappable the entire day. She was going to marry Jovan and that was the only thing that was on her mind. She fielded questions from her father and brother, including when they could have snacks, with grace and not a trace of impatience. While she had her makeup done, we dashed out for detail shots and were so excited by what we saw! Her beautiful Demetrios dress from Sposabella hung perfectly in the giant windows of the Michener’s ballroom. We surrounded it with the incredible centerpieces from Garnish which is Catering by Design’s in house floral company. The florals were utterly gorgeous. Bright pops of corals and the delicious smelling peonies set our hearts aflutter.
Meanwhile, Alison was wrapping up her makeup, so we brought her beautiful details back to her and she got dressed. Her mom helped her into her dress, and couldn’t help but cry. The emotion of the day caught up to both of them and they both shed a tear, Alison trying to not ruin her makeup and mom glad that she hadn’t had hers put on yet. After many hugs and tissues, Alison was ready for her first look.
Meanwhile, Jovan was there. Dressed and ready to go. His traditional suit looked sharp on him, but the thing that caught our attention was his crimson high top Converse All Stars. It was the first impression we got of his personality, which is exuberant, joyful, and maybe a little irreverent. But we didn’t care, he was hilarious and we had the best time with him!
The First Look at the Michener Museum
When Alison was ready, we led her outside to where Jovan stood waiting. He was chattering away about everything and nothing when she tapped his shoulder. The second he turned, he smiled, laughed, and started telling her how amazing she was. We almost couldn’t stop the flow of words long enough to tell him to kiss her. Their entire portrait session was filled with laughter, genuine moments of happiness, and maybe a couple blushes by Alison. But it was oh so worth it. We toured the beautiful grounds of the Michener Museum, finding beautiful corners to take photos in. Bridal party joined us and we laughed as everyone goofed off in between serious poses. Then it was time for family photos, which were a breeze, and then guests began to arrive for the ceremony.
The Ceremony at the Michener Museum
People from all over the world were in attendance for their wedding ceremony. Jovan’s family is from Serbia and so there were parts of the ceremony given in both Serbian and English. But the highlight of the ceremony came when Jovan’s mother was honored by her best friend. She began her speech with, “Today I feel for my friend. I love for my friend. I celebrate for my friend.” Jovan and Alison couldn’t contain the bittersweet tears as this wonderful woman was honored during their wedding ceremony for the profound impact she had on his life. We were grateful for cameras to hide behind as we teared up with them.
When they’d had a chance to regain control of their emotions, they proclaimed their vows, made with their trademark humor, and then sealed their union with a kiss and rings. Then the party got started.
The Reception at the Michener Museum
Inside the glass walls of the Michener Museum ballroom, the room was gorgeous and ready for the guests to enjoy. Alison and Jovan were announced into their reception and began the night with their first dance. They invited guests to join them halfway through and the dance floor was jammed with couples. This is how the night pressed on once the other formalities were observed. So much dancing!
We were thrilled to be a part of your wedding day, Alison and Jovan! Thank you for giving us the chance to witness your love and share in the fun!
